Overview
Dong Nai Province is located east of Ho Chi Minh City, a province where industry and agriculture coexist. Known for diverse fruit cultivation making use of the fertile soil of the Dong Nai River basin, it is especially famous for pomelo (buoi), rambutan, and chom chom (a type of rambutan).
Commercial cacao cultivation is also thriving, and Dong Nai cacao is internationally drawing attention as a raw material for single-origin chocolate. Vietnamese craft chocolate brands such as Marou Chocolate use Dong Nai cacao.
Features of agriculture
Fruit cultivation is a feature of Dong Nai Province's agriculture. A wide range of fruits are grown, including pomelo (from Tan Phu, GI-registered), rambutan, mangosteen, and durian. Cacao cultivation also covers about 4,000 hectares, with a system in place to carry out fermentation and drying at the farm level.
The livestock industry is also developed, with poultry farming (Dong Nai chicken) and pig farming carried out on one of Vietnam's largest scales.
