Overview

Long An Province is located on the boundary between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, a 'gateway' province connecting the two regions. Because it is adjacent to Ho Chi Minh City, industrialization is advancing, but in the west a Mekong-Delta-style paddy-field zone spreads out. It is also known as a dragon fruit producing area, and the dragon fruit of the Chau Thanh district is famous.

Features of agriculture

Rice cultivation is the core industry, producing about 2.8 million tonnes of rice a year. The dragon fruit cultivation area in the Chau Thanh district reaches about 12,000 hectares, making it Vietnam's second-largest dragon fruit producing area after Binh Thuan Province. Suburban agriculture (vegetables, fruit) serving Ho Chi Minh City is also important.

Main agricultural products

Rice (about 2.8 million tonnes/year), dragon fruit (about 12,000 ha), pineapple, vegetables, farmed fish

While running a food brand in Kyoto, I have worked on products that bring out the appeal of ingredients, such as dried vegetables and vegetable powders. I am now in my second year living in Vietnam, where I am also involved in coffee production on the ground, learning the whole process from cultivation to processing and flavor development. Out of a wish to deliver foods people can enjoy with peace of mind in everyday life, I value products whose production background and the faces of their makers are visible. Drawing on the appeal of both Japanese and Vietnamese food cultures, I aim to bring a little richness to daily life.
