Overview

An Giang Province is located in the upper part of the Mekong Delta, bordering Cambodia. It is one of Vietnam's largest rice producing provinces, producing about 4 million tonnes of rice a year. It is also a center of pangasius (catfish) farming, with large-scale production in farming ponds along the Mekong River main stream.

Features of agriculture

Rice cultivation is An Giang Province's core industry. During the flood period (August to November), the fertile sediment carried from the Mekong River serves as natural fertilizer, achieving high productivity. Pangasius farming is also an important pillar of the provincial economy, with farming ponds spreading mainly around the Chau Doc and An Phu districts. Annual output is about 300,000 tonnes.

Main agricultural products

Rice (about 4 million tonnes a year), pangasius (about 300,000 tonnes), mango, vegetables, glutinous rice

While running a food brand in Kyoto, I have worked on products that bring out the appeal of ingredients, such as dried vegetables and vegetable powders. I am now in my second year living in Vietnam, where I am also involved in coffee production on the ground, learning the whole process from cultivation to processing and flavor development. Out of a wish to deliver foods people can enjoy with peace of mind in everyday life, I value products whose production background and the faces of their makers are visible. Drawing on the appeal of both Japanese and Vietnamese food cultures, I aim to bring a little richness to daily life.
