Overview
Dong Thap Province is a Mekong Delta province affectionately known as the 'lotus province' (Tinh Sen). The lotus flower is the province's symbol, and lotus-related industries such as lotus seeds, lotus tea, and lotus-silk products are thriving. Vietnam's first 'rice-paddy art' also began in this province.
It is a major rice producing area and is also known as a famous mango producing area. Cao Lanh mangoes are highly rated within Vietnam.
Features of agriculture
Rice cultivation and fruit growing are the two pillars. The lotus cultivation area is about 3,000 hectares, and processed lotus-seed products (lotus seeds in syrup, lotus tea) are distributed throughout Vietnam. Mango (about 12,000 ha) is also exported to Japan, and the acquisition of VietGAP certification is advancing. Pangasius farming is also an important industry.
