Overview
Hau Giang Province is one of the newest provinces in the Mekong Delta, established in 2004 when it was separated from Can Tho City. Known as a producing area for 'Hung Hiep pineapple', intensive pineapple cultivation is thriving. Although small in area, rice cultivation and fruit growing are the main industries.
Features of agriculture
Famous as a pineapple (about 3,500 ha) producing area, 'Hung Hiep pineapple' has obtained GI registration. In addition to fresh pineapple, processed products such as pineapple juice and canned pineapple are also produced. Rice cultivation is also important, with the shift to high-quality varieties advancing. Citrus (mandarin, pomelo) cultivation is also thriving.
