Overview

Dong Thap Province is a Mekong Delta province affectionately known as the 'lotus province' (Tinh Sen). The lotus flower is the province's symbol, and lotus-related industries such as lotus seeds, lotus tea, and lotus-silk products are thriving. Vietnam's first 'rice-paddy art' also began in this province.

It is a major rice producing area and is also known as a famous mango producing area. Cao Lanh mangoes are highly rated within Vietnam.

Features of agriculture

Rice cultivation and fruit growing are the two pillars. The lotus cultivation area is about 3,000 hectares, and processed lotus-seed products (lotus seeds in syrup, lotus tea) are distributed throughout Vietnam. Mango (about 12,000 ha) is also exported to Japan, and the acquisition of VietGAP certification is advancing. Pangasius farming is also an important industry.

Main agricultural products

Rice, lotus (lotus seeds, lotus tea, about 3,000 ha), mango (about 12,000 ha), pangasius, citrus fruits, flowers

While running a food brand in Kyoto, I have worked on products that bring out the appeal of ingredients, such as dried vegetables and vegetable powders. Drawing on the appeal of both Japanese and Vietnamese food cultures, I aim to bring a little richness to daily life.
