While rapid industrialization and urbanization are underway, large-scale plantations of rubber, cashew nuts, pepper, and cacao spread across the region. Inheriting the tradition of rubber plantations developed during the French colonial era, it plays an important role in Vietnam's agricultural exports.<\/p>\n<p>The Cai Mep-Thi Vai and Cat Lai ports are Vietnam's largest agricultural export ports, from which produce from across southern Vietnam\u2014including the Central Highlands and the Mekong Delta\u2014is shipped to the world.<\/p>\n<h2>Features of agriculture<\/h2>\n<p>Agriculture in the southeast is characterized by three major industrial crops: rubber, cashew nuts, and pepper. Binh Phuoc province is a global cashew-processing hub, where about half of all of Vietnam's cashew exports are processed.<\/p>\n<p>In recent years, the cultivation of fruit trees such as durian, mango, and rambutan has also grown rapidly; durian in particular, driven by surging exports to China, is prompting the conversion of rubber plantations into durian orchards.<\/p>\n<h2>Main agricultural products<\/h2>\n<p>Rubber (natural rubber), cashew nuts, pepper, cacao, durian, mango, rambutan, coffee<\/p>\n<h2>Exports and logistics<\/h2>\n<p>The Cai Mep-Thi Vai deep-water port (Ba Ria-Vung Tau province) is Vietnam's largest port, able to receive large container ships, and is a major hub for agricultural exports. Cat Lai Port (Ho Chi Minh City) is also an important export port.
