The provincial capital Buon Ma Thuot has two coffee museums, and a coffee festival is held every March.

Red basalt soil spreads vastly, and the coffee cultivation area is about 210,000 hectares, Vietnam's largest. Robusta accounts for more than 90%, but in recent years efforts are also focused on producing specialty Robusta and fine Robusta. Many ethnic minorities such as the Ede and Mnong peoples also live here, and it is also known for the traditional culture of elephant handling.

Features of agriculture

Coffee is the pillar of Dak Lak Province's economy. About 180,000 households are engaged in coffee cultivation, and annual output reaches about 500,000 tonnes (about 30% of Vietnam's total). However, about 30% of the cultivation area is old trees over 20 years old, making replanting (tai canh) an urgent need.

Besides coffee, cacao cultivation is drawing attention. Cacao cultivation, which began with French-affiliated support, has expanded to about 3,000 hectares in Dak Lak Province and is internationally recognized as a raw material for single-origin chocolate. Cultivation of pepper, macadamia nuts, avocado, and durian is also expanding.

Main agricultural products

Coffee (Robusta, about 210,000 ha), cacao (about 3,000 ha), pepper, macadamia nuts, avocado, durian, cashew nuts, rubber

Related Articles

The Complete Guide to Dak Lak Province Agriculture: A Growing Region for Coffee and Pepper

Complete guide to how Vietnamese coffee is drunk and its culture

Vietnamese cacao and the bean-to-bar chocolate industry

Characteristics and market trends of Vietnamese honey

Comparing the coffee producing countries of Southeast Asia

Top 10 ranking of Vietnam's agricultural export value

Complete guide to the seasonal calendar of Vietnamese fruit

The Complete Guide to Vietnam's Farm-Produce Quality-Control Standards

Reference information and source links

Wikipedia (Japanese) - Dak Lak Province

General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO)

Vietnam Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)

International Coffee Organization (ICO)

[21,1,96,93,22
179,68,82,10,153,77,147,6,139,53,38
267
257
post-974","region","type-region","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-coffee","category-vietnam-agri","category-central-highlands","category-region-info","category-export","tag-jica","tag-avocado","tag-cacao","tag-coffee","tag-dak-lak","tag-durian","tag-buon-ma-thuot","tag-vietnam","tag-macadamia","tag-robusta","tag-pepper","crop_category-region-area","harvest_season-year-round
["GET
