Characterized by the central region's distinctive heavy-rain and typhoon season from September to November.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>Overview<\/h2>\n<p>Central Vietnam is a long, narrow region stretching north to south, sandwiched between the Truong Son Range (the Annamite Range) and the East Sea (the South China Sea). It is broadly divided into the north-central and south-central coasts, with varied terrain and a climate rich in variation. The terrain, where narrow coastal plains and steep mountains appear in turn, creates agricultural diversity while also being a region at high risk of typhoons and floods.<\/p>\n<p>Historically the territory of the Champa Kingdom, this region has its own agricultural culture. A distinctive feature is an 'agriculture-fishery combined' livelihood in which fishing and farming are closely linked; shrimp farming takes place along the coast, and rice cultivation and fruit growing inland.<\/p>\n<h2>Features of agriculture<\/h2>\n<p>Because the central region is at high risk of natural disasters, the large-scaling of agriculture has lagged compared with other regions, but conversely it shows a strong presence as a producing area for niche, high value-added crops.
