This figure does not include additional compensation such as bonuses and stock options, so the effective total compensation may be even higher.

The survey is a large-scale one that gathered responses from more than 250 companies and over 1,600 individuals, covering major sectors such as construction and real estate (response share 12.29%), retail and wholesale (8.44%) and IT (7.70%). The agriculture sector's response share was only 1.92% at the lowest level in the whole survey, throwing into relief the smallness of the talent pool itself.

Why agriculture became a "high-pay industry"

Vietnam's agriculture, forestry and fishery sector in 2025 grew about 4% year on year, the highest growth rate in the past decade. The 2025 agriculture, forestry and fishery export value 70.09 billion dollars (about 10.5 trillion yen) was reached, far exceeding the government target of 65 billion dollars. In the 2026–2030 five-year plan, 95–100 billion dollars is targeted, and demand for management talent able to drive this rapid expansion is surging explosively.

Ngo Thi Ngoc Lan, Navigos Search's director for the north, points out that "at many companies, actual compensation exceeds even the upper-average cap published in the report." The following structural changes are cited as factors behind the high pay.

Industrialization of production: A shift to industrial-style agriculture making full use of biotechnology, automation and data analysis is under way

Conformity to global quality standards: Building a quality-management system able to meet the import standards of the US, EU, Japan and the Middle East is indispensable

An absolute shortage of talent: People who understand agricultural management and technology while being able to integrate and manage international market strategy and complex supply chains are extremely few

Background data: pay by sector and agriculture's positioning

Looking at Vietnam's CEO pay by industry, that agriculture stands at the top over IT, finance and real estate may be counterintuitive.
